A cancelled test is one the MRO must void because a problem in the process cannot be corrected: a fatal flaw on the custody and control form (such as a missing collector signature or mismatched specimen ID), a broken chain of custody, insufficient specimen for testing with no medical explanation, or an invalid result with an acceptable medical explanation. A cancelled test is neither positive nor negative — it simply never happened for compliance purposes. When the test was required (pre-employment, return-to-duty, follow-up), it must be recollected; a cancelled random test generally is not repeated.
