A DOT-Qualified Collector is an individual who has completed qualification training under 49 CFR Part 40, Subpart C to properly collect urine specimens for DOT drug testing. Training covers: collection procedures, chain-of-custody documentation (CCF), specimen handling and packaging, handling shy bladder situations, observed and monitored collections, and recognizing attempts to tamper with specimens. Proficiency is demonstrated through five consecutive error-free mock collections. Collectors must complete refresher training every 5 years and receive error correction training within 30 days if a procedural mistake is identified. Collectors work at fixed clinic locations, mobile collection sites, and can be dispatched for on-site collections at the employer's facility.
