Since May 2014, DOT physical examinations must be performed by medical examiners listed on the FMCSA National Registry. To become certified, healthcare professionals (MDs, DOs, DCs, NPs, PAs, and Advanced Practice Nurses) must complete an FMCSA-approved training program and pass the certification test. Certification is valid for 10 years with periodic training requirements. Employers and drivers can search the National Registry at the FMCSA website to verify examiner credentials.
