A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a comprehensive, systematic evaluation that measures an individual's physical abilities and limitations. Testing typically takes 4-6 hours and assesses: lifting capacity (floor to waist, waist to shoulder, overhead), carrying, pushing/pulling, posture tolerances (sitting, standing, walking), hand grip and fine motor skills, and endurance. FCEs are used for return-to-work decisions, disability determination, job placement, and developing work restrictions. Results are compared against specific job demands to determine fitness.
