The electronic Custody and Control Form replaces the traditional five-part paper CCF with a digital workflow: donor information is entered or pre-populated at the collection site, signatures are captured electronically, and the record flows to the laboratory and MRO without couriered paper copies. HHS authorized eCCF use for federal and DOT-regulated testing, and certified labs operate approved eCCF systems. The practical benefits are fewer cancelled tests — missing signatures and illegible handwriting are the classic fatal flaws of paper forms — plus faster accessioning, cleaner data, and quicker MRO verification. The chain-of-custody requirements themselves are unchanged; only the medium is digital.
