15–30 minutesMust be clean-shaven in the respirator seal area. No food, drink, or gum 30 minutes before.

15–30 minutesStay hydrated but don't overhydrate. Bring prescription list for MRO review. CBD products may cause a positive.

10–20 minutesDon't shave your head before the test. Hair treatments and dye are fine.

10–15 minutesNo alcohol for 8 hours before. Avoid mouthwash with alcohol.

30–60 minutesFast for 8–12 hours if blood work is included. Bring CDL, glasses/contacts, and CPAP data if applicable.

DOT published final rule allowing hair testing as an alternative to urine testing for pre-employment drug screening of CDL holders. Employers may opt in to hair testing programs with proper MRO review procedures.
